Emotional Freedom Technique (EFT)

What is Emotional Freedom Technique (EFT) and what Issues Does it Help?

Emotional Freedom Technique (EFT) is a brilliant, yet simple method for easing emotional pain and physical pain. It is effective for a wide range of emotional distress. The Emotional Freedom Technique is clinically effective in helping our clients with trauma, abuse, panic, anxiety, fears, phobias, mild depression, some addictions, child related issues, and physical symptoms derived from emotional sources such as physical pain, allergies, headaches, breathing difficulties, and more.

EFT- Emotional Freedom Techniques Tapping Points

Emotional Freedom Techniques work with the Meridians system and acupressure points from traditional Chinese medicine. For years, people have been recognizing acupuncture and acupressure as a viable means for reducing physical pain. Today, Emotional Freedom Techniques provide a potent and convenient way for self-administered acupressure to ease emotional pain. The results are frequently astonishing, as the EFT method quickly melts the distress away.

How is the Emotional Freedom Technique Different?

With traditional forms of psychotherapy, people spend years talking about what bothers them, yet continue to feel their prolonged, intense emotional pain. Emotional Freedom Technique (EFT) often completely eliminate intense negative emotion and stress comfortably and in far less time than one might imagine. Those who work diligently with EFT therapy can compress a year’s worth of therapy into a month or less. It is not surprising to see issues clear out within one to two visits, as the energy is released through the meridian system. Those who have large backlogs of emotional wounding and who are willing to participate in longer-term EFT therapy are finding it is possible to reprocess and resolve a lifetime of hurt and trauma and feel free of repressed emotional stress for the first time. Hence the term ‘Emotional Freedom.’

Rapidly reducing emotional pain is one of the key benefits that psychological acupressure methods provide. This type of work is also referred to as ‘Energy Psychology,’ as the energy of negative thoughts are stored and released through our intention to heal. No one likes to linger in an unpleasant emotional state. Our natural mechanism for coping with painful feelings is avoidance.  Some people will even avoid seeking treatment because they have difficulty tolerating upsetting emotions. Older forms of emotional therapy move at such a slow pace that one is frequently deep in distress at the end of a therapy session. This is rarely the case with Emotional Freedom Techniques because the treatment helps ease the pain fast, allowing you to feel the results and assuring your distress will soon ease. EFT therapy helps you confront the most difficult of traumatic experiences with the confidence that you will not be left feeling overwhelmed, and that you will find emotional freedom from the physical and mental issues bothering you.

Why Was Emotional Freedom Technique Developed?

Gary Craig, the developer of Emotional Freedom Techniques, was an early student of Dr. Roger Callahan, who was the developer of Thought Field Therapy (TFT). TFT was the first psychological acupressure therapy. Gary took many of Dr. Callahan’s concepts and saw a way to improve and simplify the treatment. Through his efforts, this type of treatment is now available to many more people.

The EFT method is so simple that I like to teach it to the people with whom I work. It is so easy even children can learn EFT for healing and to relieve stress. By learning the basics of the Emotional Freedom Technique, you will have a way to help yourselves during stressful times. It is empowering to know you have the means to ease much of the painful emotion you experience. Once we begin to understand that the mind runs the body, we can use this stress relieving tool to eradicate the old painful memories that obscure the peace lying just beyond our wounds. Cognitive thought produces energy, which subsequently produces energetic effects that heal us when they are based on love, and harm us when we are unable to forgive the past.

Why is it Important to Heal Old Emotional Pain?

Some people have asked, “Why is it so important to heal these old hurts?” I believe there are several important answers. The simple reality is when it comes to intense emotional pain, out of sight is not out of mind, out of mind is not out of body, and out of conscious mind is not out of subconscious mind. That which is unhealed and harbored hurts us, limits us, disempowers us, lowers self-esteem, fuels overreactions, weakens our resistance to physical illness, diminishes the quality of life, contaminates peace of mind, inhibits our capacity to love, and blocks our ability to succeed in our endeavors. Authors write volumes about the adverse effects of unprocessed and unresolved emotional pain on one’s life.

Emotional Freedom Techniques and related work is so important because it is quite effective in easing human suffering. EFT is capable of extracting the negative emotional residue of painful experiences out of the mind-body system. When the emotional charge is gone, the old experiences will cease to hurt or to have power over you. Recent research shows the Emotional Freedom Technique is effective as a treatment in curing phobias, as well as easing anxiety symptoms, panic attack symptoms, stress symptoms, and symptoms of post-traumatic stress disorder. I also use EFT therapy to help with emotional abuse, overcoming fear, overcoming fear of flying, overcoming depression, relationship help, reducing a wide range of anxiety symptoms, and many other issues.

Can Emotional Freedom Technique Become Even More Effective in Therapy?

In my experience, the answer is a resounding YES! This is not to discount the necessity or effectiveness of traditional therapy. EFT does, however, provide the quickest results to release the pain (energetic charge) associated with useless emotions such as guilt, apathy, fear, anger, low self esteem, shame, grief, and many more in as little as five to ten minutes, in the majority of cases (90%). Most of the results are permanent, and you can easily learn this therapeutic technique yourself and teach it to others who are suffering. The results are what really count, and this therapeutic technique is a revolutionary treatment that needs to be experienced before deciding whether it is right for you or not. I assure you, the results will be amazing!
